When is it?

Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th August 2022. There’ll be workshop sessions on Thursday evening, all day Friday & Saturday and on Sunday morning & afternoon.

Ravin ‘Raz’ Jayasuriya, JP Courtney plus special guest tutors depending on numbers of registrations.

Content of Study

Group Bateria playing, Candomble, Congas, Pandeiro, Pagode, Songs, Congas with Bateria, technique and arrangements.

Time will be spent working on individual instruments as well as group work and fusions of traditional & modern instruments.

Plus guest tutors (numbers dependant)

Who can take part?

The workshops are designed for people who already play Brazilian percussion and/or have hand-drumming experience. The course is also ideal for musicians who want to acquire some percussion skills and learn about Brazilian music.

The classes will be run at a medium to fast pace and also provide challenges for the more advanced players.

Accommodation

Indoor accommodation

The Centre has five dormitories, each sleeping 6-8 and furnished with bunk beds with storage facilities beneath. There are separate male & female showers/toilets.

 

Gender Stuff

In the registration form, If you tick other for gender please let us know if you are happy to stay in a dorm where the majority of other people identify as either male or female. If there is an empty dorm we will allocate that to you. Please note there are no gender neutral bathrooms but there are private shower cubicles located within the male and female toilets.

 

Camping
The Centre is situated within a 4-acre campsite. So there’s plenty of room for you to put up your tent or yurt. There are separate male & female showers/toilets for campers.


There is a campfire site and an arena space for games.

Instruments

Some instruments will be provided but if you can, please bring your own from the following list: conga, surdo, repinique, caixa, tamborim, pandeiro, ganza/chocalho, agogo, rebolo, tantan, timba…

You can specify which instruments you can bring on the registration form. Please bring your own sticks & straps and bring ear-plugs.

Free time

During your free time you can go for a walk in the woods or enjoy some of the on site activities.

Your help during the weekend

To help keep things tidy and ensure this workshop runs smoothly, we kindly ask all participants to help with certain household duties.

 

Food

Vegetarian food is provided for all meals during the weekend. If you have any special dietary requirements / allergies please let us know on the registration form.
